Cody and Abigail started swim lessons today. Last year we tried to do swim lessons at the Poulsbo pool, but the kids were scared to go in the water with out Dave or I and neither of them got very far towards being able to swim. So, this year a friend told me about a lady on Bainbridge Island who gives private/semi private lessons in a swimming pool that is inside a yurt. It is salt water purified and heated (to bathwater temperature).
Cody and Abi are the only two students for a 1/2 hour lesson. The teacher is super nice and works really well with shy kids. Both kids got in the pool and "swam" with her the whole time with out any problems. The teacher had them strap on these foam things on their backs and then Cody was able to go by himself as she showed him how to move his arms and legs to get somewhere. She had to help Abi because she hadn't quite got the hang of her balance yet. Abi readily put her face into the water to blow bubbles, but Cody is still reluctant to get his face wet.
All in all not a bad day for swimming! I think they will do great with this new teacher :)

Wonderful news! Ask Cody how many times he thinks he will need to put his face in the water before he learns how to swim. When Brianna was learning to ride a bike on our pickleball court, I asked her, "how many times do you think you will need to fall before you learn to ride a bike?" she hesitantly said, "ten". Then when she fell the first time, she new she only had 9 more times to go and was up for it. Cody is probably too young for this concept, but maybe not :)
